Earlier today, the Armed Forces of Malta Operations Centre coordinated a rescue operation about 11 NM east of Malta following an accident on board a locally registered fishing vessel. An elderly man was given first aid and airlifted aboard the AB212 helicopter after losing consciousness on board the vessel. 

The Italian Air Force AB 212 helicopter which is being operated by an Italo-Maltese crew successfully transferred the patient to St Luke's Helipad where an awaiting ambulance transferred the casualty to Mater Dei Hospital. The AB212 helicopter is based in the AFM's Air Wing base facilities as part of the Italian Military Mission (MIATM).
