Calls are being made for compensation to owners of establishments in Hamrun after the celebrations for the feast of St Cajetan on Friday were cut short because of a power cut.

The calls are being made on the social media as once again parts of the country were hit by power failure on Friday evening in what has become a common occurrence in the past weeks.

No day goes by without people in various localities complaining of power cuts. Some localities have been hit regularly.

The power failure lasts a few hours at most, but it is enough to leave people frustrated without air-conditioners and fans in the summer heat.

Friday’s power cut in Hamrun had a more devastating effect as it cut short the festivities in this locality, where the feast of St Cajetan will be celebrated on Sunday.

Establishments had to close down much earlier than anticipated as they could not provide their service to the feast enthusiasts, missing out on thousands of euros in sales.

One cheeky remark was that Hamrun residents shoudl not raise their hopes too much because the minister responsi9ble for energy does not contest their district.
