Two repeat offenders with a drug addiction were jailed today after admitting to stealing a bag from a Sliema beach on Sunday.

Johannsson Spiteri, a 27-year-old from Santa Luċija, who works for a road contractor and a 30-year-old unemployed mother-of-two Jade Jones, from Gżira, were jailed after they were caught stealing the bag.

Apart from the theft, they were further charged with committing a crime during the operative term of previous court releases.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja jailed Mr Spiteri to three-and-a-half years and Ms Jones to 18 months in jail. He also ordered that they start and successfully complete a drug rehabilitation programme. This would be the eighth time Ms Jones starts such a programme.
