The government is being discriminatory between patients and the elderly and Mater Dei Hospital is going through the worst crisis which ever existed during summer, the Nationalist Party said in a statement.

The party said that the unprecedented situation at the hospital is known for all nurses, doctors and patients and has been noted by both the nurses and doctors’ unions.

Patients are now being kept inside the Day Surgery Recovery Area. The area has never been used for a separate purpose, except in 2011, when patients were being brought from Libya, the PN said.

The MAM said that 140 hospital beds are being used by long-term patients who should be in residencies and not the hospital.  The PN said that this is because the government is only concerned with using such residencies for Labourities, and not everyone is being given the same chance.

The PN said that it is a pity that Health Minister Konrad Mizzi and Parliamentary Secretary have lost track of the situation.
