Man denies trafficking, says half a kilo of cannabis found at his home was for his personal use

A 24-year-old man from Zebbug was granted bail today after admitting to being possession of cannabis and trafficking the drug. A court heard how Larkin Scicluna was caught with almost half a kilo of cannabis at home.

He pleaded not guilty to trafficking and the aggravated possession of the drug, which was found in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use. He also denied relapsing. Mr Scicluna was also charged with the simple possession of cocaine.

Lawyer Arthur Azzopardi said his client has smoke cannabis since the age of 17 and has a high dependency on the drug but was willing to kick the habit.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 appointed a probation officer to help the accused quit his habit through a rehabilitation programme.

Police Inspector Gabriel Micallef prosecuted.
