Sirens beat Valletta in last match of relegation pool

The two sides were playing their last match of the season, with the issue in the Relegation Pool already resolved, from a couple of days before, as Exiles will be meeting the winners of today's 1 Div. League Decider, in the Relegation best of three play offs. Valletta had Otis Zammit missing, and Sirens played with Jerome Zerafa Gregory vice Matthew Caruana.

Sirens took a double advantage in the opening session, with Valletta missing a man up. In all the Citizens failed in their first three man ups, but then converted their next four occasions. On the other hand Sirens managed to score in all of their four man ups. In the next period it was Sirens increasing their advantge twice, but Valletta retaliated on both occasions, and at the interval Sirens were leading on a 4-2 score.

After the break Valletta reduced their deficit further, but Sirens took the match in hand, as they put in four goals in a row, the first two from Christian Presciutti penalty throws. In between these penalties Valletta missed a penalty of their own, when Djorde Filipovic struck the upright. Valletta then put in Ryan Sciortino in goasl, and both sides managed to score again. With a last quarter to go Sirens were on a good 9-4 advantage. Ryan Mock struck twice for the Citizens, but Sirens replied on each opccasion, to hold on to their five goal lead. In the closing stgaes of the match Valletta made their last efforts, and managed to obtain a better scoreline, despite the defeat, with three more goals, two of which by Michael Rizzo.

Rizzo and Mock both scopred a brace of goals for the Citizens, and Csaba Kiss had obtained his hat trick during the third session of play.
