Lord Janner on trial?

Sunday, 23 August 2015, 10:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

In her column, Daphne Caruana Galizia condemns the British authorities for putting Lord Janner on trial for over 20 cases of alleged child sex abuse (TMIS, 16 August). She states, quite rightly, that given his infirmity, he is in no fit state to stand trial for these very serious (alleged) offences.

Greville Janner was, for many years, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. During his tenure of office, he was adamant that all former Nazis should be brought to trial to account for their misdeeds, regardless of their age or state of health.

It is, therefore, somewhat ironic to see him (or at least his defence team) now play the infirmity card which he once denied to others.
