It is truly disconcerting to read that the Malta Gay Rights Movement is making available books about same sex family relationships for distribution in government schools, even at kindergarten level.
While society needs to respect the rights of gay and lesbian people, these people also need to respect the rights of mainstream society. Minority rights should never trample on the rights of the overwhelming majority of Maltese families who have chosen to create a man-woman family.
This reading material, if distributed, will potentially create confusion in the minds of children as to what really constitutes the family, if allowed in the hands of children as young as four.
It is hoped that the education authorities and the Minister of Education in particular, will not allow the dissemination of such material, which, if not handled properly, indirectly encourages homosexuality and lesbianism.
It would be interesting to see how the teachers and staff of government schools will react when asked to distribute this reading material, especially if it runs counter to their moral, ethical and religious beliefs. Will they comply in doing something which goes against their principles? Will they protest?
The Catholic Church and other denominations in Malta need to take a stand in the face of such a situation and make their voices heard big time and protest unequivocally. How can a country which has the Catholic faith as the religion of this country enshrined in its Constitution stay silent when confronted with such a situation? God created man and woman, and God created woman for the man not for another woman.
The Bible says that Christians are the light and salt of the earth, so true Christians should be vociferous in such a situation where the order of things that God created is being reversed and what is not normal is being called normal.
There are many other things that the Churches in Malta should speak strongly against, such as the exploitation of youngsters at entertainment centres, drugs during festa celebrations, alcoholism, teenage pregnancies, the drive for abortion and a host of other evils. But this new evil is targeting the small, innocent members of our society who need to have a clear picture in their tender minds that the godly norm of a family with children is between a man and a woman.
The Christian churches should combat this situation and make available to the Ministry of Education reading material to encourage a healthy marriage relationship between a man and a woman rather than encourage that which is an abomination in the eyes of God and most men and women.
