A bright meteor blazing through the skies has been caught in two dashboard cameras in Thailand.

In the second clip, filmed in Bangkok, the fireball tears through the sky and seemingly explodes before vanishing.

The event took place during the morning rush hour at about 8:45am local time in Bangkok, although the meteor did not make an audible sound as it struck the ground, RT reports.

"The size of the fireball is judged to be quite substantial, as residents of the Sisawat district in Kanchanaburi province, some 200km from the capital, also described seeing the meteorite. They say they also heard a thunderous explosion, according to Thai PBS."

Rescue teams where sent to the area where the crash site was assumed to be but there is no word yet if they found anything.

The authorities confirmed that this was not some sort of air disaster as no planes were in the area at the time.

Events of this sort do take place occasionally, and without warning. A fireball explosion wreaked havoc in Russia last year, when some 1,200 people were injured and several buildings were damaged.
