The final phase of the public consultation on the government’s green economy strategy will be launched in the coming days, Environment Minister Leo Brincat said.

Mr Brincat made the announcement yesterday during a meeting he held with Professor Simon Richard Molesworth who is the president and the executive chairman of the International National Trusts Organisation.

He praised the professor’s work in leading such a prestigious organisation and as president of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. Prof Molesworth had also been awarded the Environmental Law Award. He is also the author of the Victoria Declaration on the Implications for Cultural Sustainability of Climate Change.

Mr Brincat said he felt honoured meeting such a distinguished person the political class can learn so much from.

The minister went on to say that people like Prof Molesworth instil a great sense of responsibility in decision-makers since they heavily promote sustainability through action not words.

The professor was invited to Malta by Din l-Art Helwa which has served as the founding member of the organisation Prof Molesworth heads since 2007.

The two discussed climate change, sustainability, clean energy, policies and environmental laws, as well as natural heritage aspects.

Also present for the meeting were Din l-Art Helwa executive president Maria Grazia Cassar, vice president Simonne Mizzi and executive secretary general Philip Mercieca.
