Economy Minister Chris Cardona has launched a programme of activities linked to SME Week 2015, the theme of which is ‘Digitising the Economy.’

Dr Cardona said 99.9 per cent of businesses in Malta are SMEs, therefore this event is relevant to all.

The Minister said SMEs provide 78 per cent of employment in the country, and the government is ensuring that they have the right environment in which to operate.

Dr Cardona said the country is breaking new records when it comes to economic growth, with Eurostat saying the Maltese economy is the fastest growing in the EU and has enjoyed its highest rate of growth since the global economic crisis.

The Minister said more favourable initiatives for SMEs will be introduced in the upcoming budget.
