Bus drivers, passengers continue to suffer because of Joe Mizzi’s incompetence – PN

Friday, 25 September 2015, 14:20 Last update: about 12 years ago

The government continues to hide the traffic problems and is spending thousands of euros in campaigns saying that public transport is improving, but it is clear that Joseph Muscat had no roadmap to better the situation and Minister Joe Mizzi’s incompetence is causing unnecessary suffering to bus drivers and passengers, the Nationalist Party said in a statement.

Shadow Minister Marthese Portelli said that Minister Mizzi’s lack of vision reached its climax this week when he was unable to resolve the issue between the General Workers Union and the Malta Public Transport, which led to today’s strike. Labour promised an improvement in the public transport sector, but what we are seeing today shows that the people were deceived.

The mismanagement in the public transport sector is leading to low wages and poor working conditions for bus drivers, Dr Portelli said.

It is unacceptable that until today nobody knows what’s in the contract signed by Minister Mizzi with the Spanish company operating the service. What is there that Minister Mizzi does not want the people to know about? The PN once again challenged the minister to publish the contract and to stop the misleading propaganda.

The PN also expressed its support to the bus drivers.
