Malta cruised to a comfortable 20-8 victory over Switzerland to set up a crucial encounter against Poland today in the European Championship Qualifying Tournament.

Malta started badly and after going 3-2 ahead through a Niki Lanzon hat trick, Switzerland came back strongly with three goals of their own after some sloppy Maltese defending. Lucato, El Mehrek and Pleyer were key to the Swiss advantage.

However Malta came roaring back in the second session scoring seven goals without reply with Lanzon, Steve and Jordan Camilleri as well as Cousin and Meli getting in on the scoresheet.

Malta continued chalking up a huge advantage winning the third session 6-1. Cousin, Stellini, Meli, Matthew and Dino Zammit were on the scoresheet. The fourth session ended 4-2 again in Malta’s favour with Cousin and Gabaretta on the scoresheet while Pleyer was the Swiss scorer with four goals overall.
