The Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure cautioned drivers to plan out their routes properly and allot the appropriate amount of time needed to arrive at their destinations. A press statement was issued through the Department of Information in light of government schools opening their doors on Monday and the expected increased numberof cars on the road.

People are urged to make use of public transport, car pooling and ferries. These initiatives are ideal for those individuals that regularly use the same route, for example those that work full days in areas such as Valletta and Sliema.

Sympathy and understanding was expressed for those people who are unable to make use of these measures due to certain commitments. The ministry cautioned those who must use their car to cooperate fully with transport authorities and police whilst also respecting traffic rules so that the movement of traffic may be facilitated as quickly as possible.

Minister for Transport Joe Mizzi called a meeting of the traffic management committee, where the improvement of the traffic situation in general was discussed.  An agreement was reached to increase police presence during peak traffic times as well as in arterial roads.
