The church of St Teresa of Jesus in Cospicua is to be elevated to the status of Basilica Minor.
Thursday 15 October marked the end of the Centenary year celebrating the 500 anniversary of the birth of St. Teresa of Jesus. The celebration reached its climax with Pontifical Mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Malta, Charles Scicluna at St. Teresa Church, the first Church worldwide ever dedicated to the Spanish Mystic.
During this celebration, Fr Provincial presented the request of the Provicnial Chapter to have this historical church elevated to the status of Basilica Minor.
On Sunday a procession will be held along the streets of Cospicua between 6pm and 9pm to mark this special occasion. The last time a similar procession was held was 33 years ago.
A few weeks ago Arcbishop Scicluna gave his blessing for the Mosta parish to apply for a basilica status for the Rotunda.
