Queen Elizabeth will be visiting Malta in late November with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Department of Information said.

They will be here to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting between 26 and 28 November.

Details of the visit were made public today, with the highlights of the visit being the official welcome in St George’s Square, a reception hosted by the Queen and the grand opening of the CHOGM meeting.

The visit will also include a separate programme for Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall Camilla Parker Bowles.

This is the fourth time that the Prince of Wales will be attending the CHOGM, the DOI said.

The programme of activities is as follows:

Thursday 26 November

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat greets Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at the airport. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be arriving earlier on a separate plane.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will be welcomed officially in St George’s Square by President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and will later go to San Anton Palace.

In the afternoon, the Prince of Wales will attend the CHOGM Business Forum while the Duchess will visit Mdina Glass at Ta’ Qali.

Queen Elizabeth will be hosting a reception at San Anton Gardens in the evening.

The Prince of Wales, as President of the Prince’s Trust, will launch the Prince’s Trust International.

Friday 27 November

The Royal Family will be attending the opening of the CHOGM event, presided by the Queen.

Queen Elizabeth and the Prince of Wales will be meeting Commonwealth heads of state, including the Prime Ministers of Australia and Canada, at San Anton.

The Duke of Edinburgh will visit St Paul’s Cathedral to meet former members of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment (Berkshire and Wiltshire) and the Friends of the Cathedral. The duke will later go to the Casino Maltese for the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards.

The Duchess of Cornwall, as patron of the Book Trust, will attend a Read with me session at the Sir Thomas More college in Zejtun, and will later attend a remembrance ceremony at the naval cemetery.

The Prince of Wales will visit the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa and will participate in a public discussion with young people.

On Friday evening, the Royal Family will attend the CHOGM traditional dinner at the Corinthia Hotel in Attard.

Saturday 28 November

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will be visiting Mdina before they leave Malta.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will be visiting Heritage Malta and will then be transferred by boat across Grand Harbour before attending their last activity at the Marsa Racecourse.

In the early 1950s Princess Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh, then a serving officer in The Royal Navy in the Mediterranean Fleet, spent time on the island.

As Queen, Her Majesty has visited Malta in 1954, 1967, 1992, 2005 and in 2007, when she and The Duke stopped over in Malta to celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary, en route to CHOGM in Uganda. This will be Her Majesty's fourth State Visit to Malta.

The Prince of Wales’ first visit was as a child in 1954 and the most recent Royal visit was by Prince William in September 2014 to mark 50 years of Malta's independence.
