Another dumb monument

Sunday, 1 November 2015, 15:02 Last update: about 11 years ago

As soon as I saw the design for the monument to 'Immigration - Africa to Europe - Meeting', I could think of nothing else except what one normally leaves behind in the toilet.

Prof. Richard England, the local hallowed expert in architecture and things modern - wearing a bright purple shirt as if he thinks he is still a teenager - stood up for the expertise of the artist in question, whose opus was being sculpted by marble experts at the quarries of Carrara in Italy.

Unfortunately, this is the latest example of the futile struggle of Maltese talent to place itself on a higher artistic level in the continent of Europe. However, I am afraid that it will most probably end up as an inane monument to Europe's Third World Emigration Fiasco.
