May I bring to the attention of Finance Minister Prof. Edward Scicluna Income Tax discrimination with regard to shares?
Investors who have shares are taxed on the gross dividend of 35% rate. An opportunity is given to those whose income is taxed at 0% and 15%. When they apply for the tax refund the net dividend on their shares is regulated to be in line with the tax rate of their income.
But this opportunity is not given to those whose income is taxed at the highest rate, which is 25%.
Can this tax discrimination be amended so that tax at source is the same rate as the individual's income rate - in this case 25% rather than 35%?
