Small fry

Sunday, 22 November 2015, 14:50 Last update: about 12 years ago

I refer to a Kim Dalli's news item entitled "Identity Malta workers took bribes for permits" (ToM, 31 October) where it was stated that four Identity Malta officials were charged in court (on Friday, 30 October) for "taking bribes in order to issue residence permits" whereas a fifth person (a Monti worker) was considered to have acted as a go-between. Incidentally, this same report went on to say that "police sources" described the four Identity Malta officials in question as "small fry".

In this context, one can now ask the Commissioner of Police Michael Cassar the following question: why were Joe Vella Bonnici (Identity Malta Executive Chairman) and Robert Falzon (Malta's former Consul in Algeria responsible for having issued 7,000 Schengen visas to Algerians) never arraigned in court?
