Two Libyans were arrested in Pozzallo this morning with fake Libyan passports and Maltese residency permits, Italian media report.
The two were about to embark on a trip to Malta on board a luxurious Chevrolet.
Italian police are not divulging many details on the arrest, Italian media said.
The two were arrested outside the hotel and were both using mobile phones when they were approached by the police. The documents they provided to the police were passports issued in Libya and Maltese residency permits, it was reported.
They were on their way to the Pozzallo port with tickets to board the catamaran. Checks on the documents provided led the police to suspicions and the two were arrested.
The police also discovered a few Libyan car number plates in the boot.
