Renzo Piano deserves our admiration for the beautiful design of City Gate. His superb design of the new parliament and the entrance to our city is there for all to see and appreciate.
However, I cannot say the same thing for the cosmetic modification he planned for the Opera House. It is really a pity that the once magnificent Teatru Rjal was left in such a pitiful state.
The government is spending millions on various projects with the financial help of the European Union. Why not give the idea of rebuilding Teatru Rjal a fresh boost? A historic city like Valletta deserves an Opera House similar to the one we had before it was destroyed by bombs. I still find it unacceptable to leave our Teatru Rjal in such bad taste.
Some of our political leaders are truly interested in culture, but even those who don't give a toss, should think again about giving this idea a new kiss of life.
