Last week I wrote an article about the active, self-moving, potency of the human totipotent cell, including the zygote formed following fertilisation of the ovum by the sperm cell, in order to show how these cells are destined biologically to become the fully developed human being at birth. Because of their self and free moving potencies and because of their full potentials with completely clear epigenetic patterns, these cells are in fact human beings already. They are the cell which is the born baby which is the child and eventually the grown man or woman. Only time intercedes to make any difference but the active potency is there already. Alfred North Whitehead, the philosopher of process, would have seen in them the principle which never changes within a biological mass that is ever in process. The singular DNA, which is never changing, is the backbone of the new ever-changing epigenetic patterns as life evolves and progresses. Taking its cue from biology, classical philosophy looks at the self-moving potential, found in every human being, and recognises it to be also present in the human totipotent cell. Other individual cells of the human body are not imbued with an active self-moving potency, but their potency for development or growth is, as we say, passive or decided by other cells and factors with which they are in close contact. Only the totipotent cell retains full active potency, which does so till all stages of the human being are fulfilled until death. However, the formal active self-moving potency being of a self-moving infinite nature from its beginning, cannot end with death of the cell or body itself but must go on infinitely, dragging along with it its material cause, to be changed in a way which we cannot yet understand! This philosophical extrapolation of what we comprehend as the formal and material causes of humanity in philosophy, form the basis of what we comprehend as eternal life in all religions. Faith is indeed informed by reason.

In its frenzied rush to remove the legal protection of the human totipotent cell in our Embryo Protection Act, our progressive Labour government is not only throwing out essential biological nature and human reason, it is also insulting our faith in this active self-moving potency and therefore destroying our only real hope in life itself! Then again, since for this government the end justifies the means, it is all in a day's work to bring in surrogacy and the possibility of adoption of left-over embryos by heterosexual and homosexual couples. What it is failing to realize is that the methods it is choosing are in fact both selective of human beings and involve the selling off of second grade embryos to the couples themselves! Their plan to leave fertilised embryos develop for five days instead of the normal three involves the concept of weaker embryos dying out between the third and fifth day, an actual process of selection of the strongest human beings, when the weakest could survive if all the fertilised embryos are transferred to the womb earlier and completely as the present law contemplates. The anomaly that this government is creating is that from the actual surviving embryos left over after three days, the best two are chosen for womb transfer, leaving the other second grade selected embryos for freezing! This means that those who choose to have surrogate embryos or adopt embryos from these leftover frozen bunches, will in effect get second grade embryos transferred to their womb. The Labour government not only allows the renting of female uteri, but selects human beings and offers second grade selected embryos to those who want to adopt them, both couples being of either a heterosexual or homosexual orientation!

The present law allows freezing and adoption of embryos only in the rare contingent (emergency) cases where the mother becomes too ill to receive the fertilised egg now embryo, or if the mother actually dies before embryo transfer to the uterus is effected. The article is there to protect human life, not to commodify it! By comparison, the present Labour government's misguided intentions to freeze embryos are what in philosophy are termed for necessary or in other words for regular, finalities. That is, even with the best of intentions, an ongoing regular freezing system that can only result in the freezing of hundreds of surplus frozen human beings in embryonic stages of development. Many embryos will die or be discarded in the process. Others found to be of inferior grade will also either be discarded or ultimately offered to science for study or dissection!

This is madness of gross proportions being championed in the name of an inequality which is not an inequality at all. Homosexual couples need to be equal to heterosexual couples in rights where equal respect and dignity are mandated. They need to be equal in rights where equal potencies are in effect there. They cannot be equal in fact where potencies are unequal. This is an essence of democracy, which is never based on equality of fact but an equality of rights and it is also a principle of biology and nature. They cannot be equal in biological function where in effect there is a profound natural biological difference. Children are the product of a sexual encounter between a man and a woman. They have a right to be raised by their genetic parents for their own personal identity fulfilment, unless of course there is a contingency where the parents abandon their responsibilities, in which case the State then allows other contingencies like adopting or fostering, to protect the children. This however is purely a contingency and is never the necessity or regular bearing of the way things ought to be done! This is our human nature, man and women are necessarily different in sexual function. There is no equality here, so there cannot be an inequality for homosexual couples, if they cannot have children biologically! This is our biological nature and the rational norm. It does not serve man well, or even people with homosexual orientation or gender identity issues, or even the misguided MGRM, to remove the norm, abandon reason and create a false new norm and foster policies based on this false norm which in fact does not exist, with the resultant aberration of human dignity. The way the Labour government and the MGRM are reasoning things based on a false norm will only ensure that second grade embryos are offered for adoption. The MGRM may be misguided. The Labour government is doing this consequentially only for votes! In the final analysis, it is ready to sell human dignity and human beings for votes!
