The sum of €150,000 was presented by Bank of Valletta during the live broadcast of L-Istrina. This donation represents funds collected through the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign and a significant contribution by the bank itself.
The cheque was presented by the Bank's new CEO Mario Mallia, together with the members of the Bank's Management Board. They were accompanied by a group of children and their parents, who are BOV employees. The donation was presented to H.E. The President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and Mr Edgar Preca.
The piggy bank, which is synonymous with this campaign was present in every Primary and Secondary school around Malta and Gozo, since October 2015. In addition, this year, this campaign was introduced around Centres participating in Skolasajf. Various schools organised activities throughout the first months of the scholastic year through which they raised funds towards the Malta Community Chest Fund.
This campaign now marks its 12th consecutive year. Over the years, it has helped not only in raising donations towards the MCCF, but also to raise awareness among young school children about the importance of being altruistic and thinking of others, especially during the festive period.
