'Fat' journalist challenges Man Utd's Van Gaal: ‘win more points than I lose pounds’

Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has been challenged by a journalist he called "fat" - "win more points than I can lose pounds".

Van Gaal is having a torrid time as manager of Britain's biggest club with the team knocked out of Europe, slipping to sixth place in the Premier League and accused by fans and former players of being "boring".

His temper seemed to get the better of him at a press conference on Tuesday night.

After United threw away a lead to end up drawing 3-3 at Newcastle, Van Gaal criticised his players and was then asked about striker Wayne Rooney.

The Dutchman replied to the journalist: "You have criticised him, I don't."

As he walked away he then turned and pointed at Sun reporter Neil Custis, and said: "You too. Fat man. There."

Custis responded later to the BBC, saying: "You are right Louis I am fat.

"I had a knee operation four months ago that stopped me running and going to the gym."

Custis was backed by many people on Twitter. REUTEREW IT AWAY: Unitet equalised in the last minute

Now Custis has laid down the gauntlet to Van Gaal.

He said he would lose 28lb before the end of May…and challenged LVG to win more league points than that by the end of the season.

United have won 34 points out of 21 league games. There are 17 games left.
