Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela confirmed that a final report on the internal inquiry regarding the death of a prisoner at Mount Carmel will be presented to the minister today.
Speaking in Parliament earlier this month, the Minister had announced that he would appoint an internal inquiry to investigate the death of an inmate at the forensics section at Mount Carmel.
He had said that the inquiry would be concluded within ten days.
In comments to The Malta Independent, Carmelo Abela said that the final report would be presented to him today.
Asked about who will be held accountable for this third death of an inmate within a few months while under police custody, the Minister replied that the inquiry should shed some light on who should shoulder responsibility.
“We conducted this inquiry so that we can address the issue as soon as possible”, he added.
Besides the internal inquiry which was carried out, the Minister also appointed a magisterial inquiry which he hopes would be concluded as soon as possible.
