This will be a very special year for VOICES, as it marks the 25th anniversary since the first concerts were staged way back in 1991. In order to celebrate this milestone, the Voices Foundation is planning a special anniversary concert, taking a trip down memory lane as the choir revisits some of its most memorable moments.
This is to be a "Best of VOICES" concert with a repertoire of unforgettable musical numbers performed by the largest choir to date and composed of former choir members, directed by Martina Caruana, and accompanied by the Voices band led by Sandro Grech.
VOICES has come a long way since its humble beginnings at St. Aloysius College, when a small group of friends organised a fund-raising concert. The success of this led to a series of 13 concerts along the years, performed by a growing choir, to an ever-increasing audience. VOICES has raised two million euros which were awarded to various charities and philanthropic organisations.
The Foundation has decided that this year is the right time to celebrate the success that has been VOICES and to diversify into new ventures. Launching the Best of VOICES concerts, Voices Foundation chairman Antonello Gauci explained that, following its 25 years of success, this will be the last in the series of VOICES concerts. The mission behind Voices will continue and the Foundation is inviting organisations or individuals to propose initiatives that will carry further the aim behind Voices, which is "that of bringing young people together in a positive and creative environment and to be a voice for and aid to the vulnerable".
In order to assist this initiative, the Voices Foundation will be setting aside a Start-up Initiative fund to be awarded to the organisations or individuals who successfully meet the Foundation's criteria. Details are available on VOICES website: www.voices.org.mt
The Foundation has also issued its Beneficiary Fund guidelines and application form for projects that may benefit from this year's funds, and are also available on the Foundation's website.
The Best of Voices concerts will be held on 7, 8 and 9 October at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta' Qali and are not to be missed.
