The Privatisation Unit has received five expressions of interest for the design, construction and operation of a Motor Recreation and Education Park.

Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youths and Sport Chris Agius made the announcement today as the call for expressions of interest, which opened in September, came to a close.

The Parliamentary Secretariat and the Privatisation Unit said they are not yet in a position to announce the sites chosen by the applicants since the EOIs have not yet been opened and evaluated.

The next step is to appoint and evaluation committee, which will go through the submissions. The government will then decide whether to issue a request for proposals, which would only be open to the shortlisted applicants.

Mr Agius said the government had pledged to identify a site for a motorsport track, possibly with the involvement of the private sector.

He said that, contrary to some media reports, no site has yet been identified. The government, he said, will maximize the potential of any site chosen, especially with regard to jobs.
