WASHINGTON — A Supreme Court deeply split over abortion wrestles with widely replicated Texas regulations that could drastically cut the number of abortion clinics in the state. As ever, Justice Anthony Kennedy appears to hold the outcome in his hands on a court operating with eight justices since the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Amid concerns about the newly emerging Zika virus, health workers in Haiti are still battling a relentless epidemic of cholera, which appeared in the country for the first time in October 2010 and has killed at least 9,200 people. 

MEXICO-DRUG LORD

MEXICO CITY — Drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is willing to plead guilty to charges in the U.S. if he is promised a short sentence in a medium-security prison, one of his lawyers announces, saying his client has been worn down by Mexican guards keeping him awake.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — In a sign of growing discontent over a visit by President Barack Obama, an Argentine Nobel Prize winner says the U.S. leader should skip the March 24 stop because it's the 40th anniversary of a coup that installed a military government that had U.S. backing.

HAVANA — Cuba announces it has detected the first case of the Zika virus on the island, which had been one of the last nations in the Western Hemisphere free of the disease.

ORANGE, California — An Egyptian flight student faces deportation from the U.S. after being investigated by federal agents for posting threatening comments online about Donald Trump.
