European Speech Language Therapy Day

Monday, 7 March 2016, 14:03 Last update: about 9 years ago

European Speech Language Therapy day is celebrated in March.  The theme of this year will turn our focus on Dypraxia, a form of coordination disorder.  It is a common disorder affecting fine and/or gross motor coordination in children and adults. It may also affect speech, the social skills as well as emotional aspect.  Difficulties with time management, planning and personal organisation may also be affected.  Individuals with Dyspraxia may vary in how their difficulties present depending on its severity.  These challenges may change over time depending on environmental demands and life experiences.

As one of the affiliates of CPLOL, the Association of Speech Language Pathologists (ASLP) is also preparing an interesting event to celebrate this year Speech Language Therapy Day.  Profs. Helen Grech, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Malta, will be addressing the audience with a practical talk on dyspraxia and how different professionals, parents and carers can help those affected by this condition. This will be followed by a presentation by Ms. Estelle Farrugia, Speech-Language Pathologist, which will focus on the use of different tablet applications that can be used when dealing with Dyspraxia.

The event will take place on Friday 11 March at 6.30pm at Hilltop Gardens, Naxxar.  Those interested to attend are kindly ask to send their bookings on [email protected] or contact ASLP on 79427660.
