Sword & Fantasy Short Film Festival next Sunday

Monday, 14 March 2016, 15:41 Last update: about 9 years ago

The Sword & Fantasy Short Film Festival celebrates fantasy cinema as a wonderful collection of magical tales unfolds onscreen with exclusive one night screenings at Villa Bologna.

Each story is beautifully brought to life and combines humour, intrigue, magic and amazing fantasy creatures. Host Adam Peter Fretwell, comments, "These short films capture memorable scenes of knights with crystal-like swords saving damsels in distress, dastardly villains using their black cauldrons to rule the world and dragons setting everything ablaze establishing their reign over the kingdom."

Mr Fretwell adds, "If in the 1980s, Labyrinth and The Princess Bride provided pure escapism, film events like Sword & Fantasy are reviving the genre by giving the audience a gateway into imaginary realms with the best fantasy shorts coming from across a wide range of genres from animation, drama and silent".

Preceding the short film screenings there will be a short talk by Mr Fretwell on how swords have been portrayed in fantasy film, TV series' versus actual swordplay. The Sword and Fantasy Short Film Festival is a unique, alternative film distribution, exhibition platform as these shorts are not screened in local cinemas or TV.

During the film event, the audience will be given the opportunity to vote for the best film, and prizes will also be given out.  Medieval or fantasy costumes are encouraged but not a must.

Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Entrance is €10 and includes wine and canapés including free popcorn. The venue will be heated. For bookings please email [email protected] or text to 99454066. For event details visit https://www.facebook.com/Euro.Media.Forum

This event is being held in collaboration with Jameson Irish Whiskey, Villa Bologna and Euro Media Forum.
