KOREAS-TENSION — North Korea ignores U.N. resolutions by firing a medium-range ballistic missile into the sea, officials say, days after its leader ordered tests of weapons linked to its pursuit of a long-range nuclear missile capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.

PAKISTAN — Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf leaves Pakistan to receive medical care abroad, his aides say, leaving behind his trials on treason and murder charges for a city where he lived in exile for years.

NEPAL-ROYAL REGRETS — As Nepal prepares to welcome Britain's Prince Harry this weekend, there's a yearning among some Nepalis fed up with the political instability and bureaucratic malaise to bring back the monarchy they abolished nearly a decade ago.

CHINA-ANGRY MINERS — A government banner reads like a last-gasp exhortation to this exhausted coal community: "Improve our structure, change our methods, transform our city." This area has transformed in dire ways as China has retreated from coal and heavy industry. Li Jiuxian, who hasn't been paid for half a year, sees only mounting debts and anger.

UNITED STATES-ASIA NUCLEAR — A senior U.S. official comes out strongly against major powers in East Asia pursuing nuclear reprocessing that nonproliferation experts warn could lead to spiraling quantities of weapons-usable material in a tense region.
