Sliema easily dispose of arch rivals Neptunes, San Giljan go top

Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate registered an important victory over their arch rivals NeptunesGrimaldi in an initially tight fought encounter but with crucial first and final sessions.

In a high scoring first session, Sliema prevailed by four goals to two. Neptunes took the lead through Niki Lanzon but Sliema reacted strongly with four goals in succession coming from Aquilina, Gabaretta, Soler and Mark Meli with Neptunes reducing the deficit through Jordan Camilleri.

The second session was tighter but Sliema still won it 1-0 through an Alex Attard goal for a three goal lead at the halfway point. Neptunes won the third session 1-0 through a Niki Lanzon penalty but were profligate in man up situations wasting several opportunities to narrow the scoreline.

Sliema pulled away in the final session winning 5-1 after Niki Lanzon had reduced the gap to just one goal with a penalty but strikes from Cluett, Aquilina, Marc Fenech and Mark Meli easily decided the encounter.

Valletta McDonalds 5 San Giljan 11

San Giljan easily won their fourth encounter on the trot, beating Valletta McDonalds 11-5 to remain top of the table with maximum points.

San Giljan won the first session with a solitary goal by Matthew Zammit and also shaded the second 2-1. Michael Rizzo equalised for Valletta but a brace by Paul Fava put San Giljan two goals ahead at the midway point of the match.

The third session saw San Giljan impose themselves winning 5-2, with goals from Peter Borg, Fava, Ben Plumpton and Dino Zammit after Valletta had reacted strongly through Charlie Zammit and a Michael Rizzo penalty. The fourth session was also won 3-2 by San Giljan with goals from Matthew Zammit and Borg after Michael Cordina and Daniel Paolella had reduced the deficit for Valletta for a final score of 11-5.

Exiles Ferretti 2 Sirens Ritter Sport 4

Sirens Ritter Sport got the better of Exiles Ferretti in a tight encounter which ended 4-2 in their favour.

Exiles shaded the first session 10 with Sean Gravina scoring the only goal of the session.

The second was won by Sirens 2-1 with Pace and Sammut scoring for Sirens and Lanzon making it all square at the half way point.

The third session was a similarly close affair but Sirens won it 1-0 thanks to a goal by Zak Mizzi. The fourth session ended identically 1-0 with Zach Mizzi scoring again for a final score of 4-2.

Otters Nivea 8 Ta’ Xbiex Amigos 6

Otters Nivea won their first game in the BOV First Division with a hard fought victory over Ta’ Xbiex Amigos that ended 8-6.

The first two sessions saw Otters Nivea shade the advantage winning 1-0 and 3-2 respectively. Gabriel Mizzi scored a brace with Christoph Martin and Luke Hyzler scoring the others.

Kurt Mock and Duncan Schembri replied for Ta’ Xbiex.

Otters also shaded the third session 2-1 with Georg Debono and Max Borg scoring for the Gozitans and Duncan Schembri replying for Ta’ Xbiex.

Ta’ Xbiex won the final session with goals from Mock, Gravina and Saliba but Hyzler and Debono kept Otters’ advantage for a final score of 8-6
