A few days ago, the Leader of the Opposition came out with another statement from his collection of puerile or idiotic declarations. He was quoted on the front page of the PN’s newspaper as saying: “We did in three days what the government has failed to do in three years!” Dr Simon Busuttil was referring to the draft Bill on the reform of how members of the judiciary are appointed.

I used to believe that Tonio Fenech was the only one in the PN’s parliamentary group who believes that the Maltese are “idiots” (remember his reference about who he trusted to run Air Malta?). Now I am starting to believe that Tonio Fenech is in good company, because only idiots would take Dr Busuttil’s statement seriously.

Who does not know that the PN had never even bothered to reform the present system when they had been in office for 25 long years? And especially, when Dr. Busuttil boasts of having written the PN electoral manifesto in 2008 and 2013?

The PL’s reply truly hit the nail on the head when the PL said that the draft bill presented to the clerk of the House must have been written in three hours not three days. In fact, it looks more like a ‘cut and paste’ job from the suggestions made by the Chamber of Advocates, just days after the PN had said that its reform plan was based on the Bonello report which had been prepared by Judge Giovanni Bonello.

Simply put, the PN and its leader are in no position to lecture this government on justice reform, as on many other issues.
