Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this morning insisted that there is no rush for him to make up his mind about what to do with regard to Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri.

In spite of recommendations from senior ministers, including Evarist Bartolo, that Konrad Mizzi should resign, Dr Muscat said that he has already said that a decision will be taken at the opportune time.

Not even Friday’s resignation of Spain’s minister of industry Juan Manuel Soria after his name was revealed in the Panama Papers has pushed Joseph Muscat to take a different approach.

Dr Muscat had said that once the independent tax audit will be finalised, he will take a decision. This morning he said that “soon I will conclude what I need to conclude” about the situation and will take a decision “at the opportune time”.

The story broke nearly two months ago when it was revealed that Konrad Mizzi had a company in Panama that was held in a trust in New Zealand. Two weeks ago, Konrad Mizzi's name was listed in the Panama Papers revealed by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
