Bupa Malta, one of the leading providers of international private medical insurance products and services, ran a special initiative during Breast Cancer Awareness month (October 2015) to encourage people to donate their hair to help create wigs for people going through oncology treatment. Bupa Malta provided participants with a free haircut and style from Toni & Guy.
Marie Louise Coleiro Preca hosted a presentation ceremony at The Palace in Valletta on April 14th, to give special recognition to those volunteers who generously gave up their hair in support of those going through oncology treatment and help Bupa Malta raise awareness of Breast Cancer, in collaboration with Action for Breast Cancer Foundation.
Highlights
- 120 people donated their hair
- 50 real hair wigs are being made right now from those donations
- The wigs will benefit Maltese patients undergoing oncology treatment
Charles Zarb, Branch Manager Bupa Malta said, "Interest from people who wanted to help out was very high and beat our expectations by 20%. We are very grateful to all volunteers who gave up their hair and we look forward to helping out oncology patients in the near future."
Barbara and Alana Attard, mother and daughter who both participated in the project said "We participated in this initiative organised by Bupa Malta because we wanted to donate something for a good cause without benefitting ourselves and Bupa helped us do that."
Her Excellency presented each participant with a certificate of recognition and a gift from Bupa Malta at the event.
