The news portal run by state-funded Public Broadcasting Services this morning erroneously reported that new revelations on the Panama Papers had been made.
Such revelations are to be made this evening by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, but PBS picked on a list known as the Offshore Leaks which has been public since 2013. This investigation has nothing to do with Panama Papers.
The story, which Net News said was written by PBS head of news Reno Bugeja, was removed from the website an hour later.
PBS has for long been ignoring most of the stories that were related to the Panama Papers, particularly the Maltese angle involving No-Portfolio Minister Konrad Mizzi and OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri.
In a tweet, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil said that PBS, after 10 weeks of playing matters down on the issue, woke up and got it wrong.
