Maltese students did remarkably well at the SuperTmatik Mental Maths Championship 2015 - 2016, where they've managed to score high positions despite the strong competition.

This annual mental mathematics international championship is a mathematics competition for students aged between six and 15 years. Maltese students in different year groups from both primary and secondary schools participated in one of nine different categories depending on their age. This competition promotes interest in mental mathematics and provides students with another opportunity to reinforce their skills in number and mental calculations through constructive play. Nonetheless, this competition aims at honing and celebrating talent in mental mathematics. 

This year students, in both primary and secondary schools have once again obtained excellent results in the SuperTmatik Mental Maths Championship. Maltese students obtained an overall third place for Malta in the SuperTmatik world ranking.

1st place: Hayden Micallef - Maria Reġina College, Mellieħa Primary

2nd place: Kayden Farrugia Falzon - St Ignatius College, Qormi San Ġorġ Primary School

6th place: Daniel Petersons -Maria Reġina College, Mellieħa Primary

10th place: Milena Stagno - St Nicholas College Mġarr Primary

Category 4 - pupils born in 2006

3rd place: Jordan Camilleri - St Theresa College, St Venera Primary School

Category 9 - pupils born in 2001-2000

1st place: Celeste Grech - National Sports School

8th place: Nicole Sciberras - National Sports School

The Ministry for Education and Employment thanked all schools that embraced this wonderful opportunity. Class teachers, together with their senior management teams and educators supporting these schools including Heads of Department (Mathematics) and the Maths Support Teachers have provided yet another learning opportunity for the students to develop a useful life skill and to boost their motivation towards mental maths.
