More than 400 students from 11 schools across Malta gathered in Pjazza San Ġorġ on 20 May to participate in the biennial international dance event Big Dance.
Organised by HSBC Water Programme - Catch the Drop and the British Council and supported by ŻfinMalta Dance Ensemble and Dance Studies Department of the University, the event provided the students with the opportunity to explore and perform an original choreography created by internationally acclaimed choreographer, Akram Khan, on themes of 'overcoming adversity' and 'achievement'.
Big Dance is a biennial event whereby a choreographer is chosen to create a short choreography and taught to more than 100,000 people from all corners of the world. The dance is then performed on the same day at the same time globally as the biggest expression of dance celebration across the globe.
Beyond the celebration of the human ritual of dance, the event was also a celebration of love for the environment, diversity, inclusion and friendship.
Earlier, an open workshop at the Pjazza offered students a chance to learn the original songs composed for the HSBC Water Programme - Catch the Drop. An art exhibition featuring works of students attending the Church schools was also organised on the occasion.
