Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds, Ian Borg, announced the second call under the Endeavour scheme which will make more scholarships available to students who wish to specialise in a particular field. The total investment amounts to roughly €7.5 million which will all be provided by the European Social Fund from which around 500 applicants will benefit.

Dr Borg said that the scheme will be benefitting a number of different fields, particularly research in science and technology. There will also be attention given to other more specific fields like creative industries, life sciences, tourism and financial services.

The scheme will be in addition to the one which has currently been ongoing for the last two and a half years. The first call for applicants gave scholarships to 257 students with an investment of over €2.1 million under Scheme A, while 57 other students benefitted from €600,000 under Scheme B.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation and Youth, Chris Agius, was also present emphasising the success of these investments so far with over 300 students who have already benefitted. Mr Agius said that these opportunities are essential in light of the government's work to fight unemployment and to incentivise students to work towards specialised careers.

Dr Borg encouraged all interested to apply online until 6 July. The results will be sent to the applicants after an evaluation process of every application in the coming months.
