The article entitled ‘That is Muscat’s blog, not Bedingfield’s’ penned by Daphne Caruana Galizia (TMIS 29 May 2016) contains a very malicious lie with respect to Justice Minister Owen Bonnici.

The article states that a particular female Magistrate who was appointed to the bench by this Government had “questionable connections … with the Justice Minister before he became Justice Minister”.

The underlying insinuation is irresponsible and, quite frankly, disgusting.

It is ironic that the same newspaper that, a few days ago, carried an editorial condemning attacks on members of the Judiciary, has now allowed its main contributor to publish slanderous lies on a Magistrate and the Justice Minister.

The least your newspaper can do is to publish a retraction and an apology, and the Justice Minister is reserving his rights at law to proceed further against The Malta Independent and its contributor.
