We all want to feel safe and secure wherever we are

Even if we don't fear our own well-being we may fear the well-being of other family members. In fact, we all yearn for peace of mind that if something goes wrong, someone will be on their way to offer immediate support. With today's technological advances, healthcare has progressed to be able to offer you the support and security you need.

As we all grow older we begin to fear being dependent on others and being vulnerable. Thankfully today technology and healthcare have come together to help independent living and provide customers with an added level of safety, security and peace of mind in their everyday lives.

emCare a highly established company offering electronic and mobile care through the efficient use of technology has researched and heavily involved itself in the development of Active Ageing. This has led the company to offer a range of products and services that provide continuous and real-time health and environmental monitoring. Given the development of different technologies and devices, today emCare helps to empower men and women of all ages to be more independent, confident and secure through the control of their health and well-being.

emCare partners with market leaders and distributes devices such as the On-Wrist Fall Trigger, which raises the alarm with the 24/7 call centre once it senses a fall. Such a device has helped to change people's life and empowered persons to achieve a better and more independent quality of life. Other home devices developed by emCare, which provide peace of mind are the smoke detector and intruder alarm which not only act as an alarm, but inform the call centre so they can take emergency action.

For those who are on the move, emCare also provides mobile phones designed for seniors, which come with an SOS button on the back of the phone for emergencies. When pressed, the 24/7 emergency contact centre is alerted. The centre then immediately notifies the emergency services and next of kin with the exact pinpoint location of the user via GPS.

However technology alone is not the be all and end all. There are also other basic safety precautions that one should consider to make his or her home safer, because it is after all where most accidents happen.

Keeping our homes clear of any clutter, which may get in our way, will go a long way towards providing a safer environment at home. Other important safety features include the installation of light fittings at the top and bottom of stairways as falling in the staircase is a common accident that can be easily avoided.  Added to this, one should also consider grab bars along a staircase to hold on to so as not to lose your balance.

Daily exercise to improve strength, balance and coordination together with choosing a balanced diet can also go a long way to help you remain alert and strong as you grow older. This and other precautionary measures can help you live securely and independently in your own home.  Because as they say, precaution is better than cure.
