In my article entitled Emergency Contraception in last week’s edition of this newspaper I stated that the use of Levonorgestrel was better than that of Ulipristal, in the case of use for certain emergency contraceptive cases before ovulation had taken place. After being contacted by pharmacists of an academic disposition, and after having reviewed the specifications, I have been convinced that both drugs can be used responsibly in certain cases of emergency contraception at the pre-ovulation stage. However, neither should be used at the post-ovulation stage (as is also the case of Mifepristone both pre and post-ovulation), as they can possibly then become abortifacients.
