Labour Party Councillor Ray Azzopardi is expected to tender his resignation after appearing in court facing serious charges. He sits on the Kercem Local Council.

Speaking to The Malta Independent, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Chris Cardona said that he is informed of the case and its nature. He confirmed that Mr Azzopardi "will soon present his resignation." Although it was not specified exactly when, the Labour Party expects to receive the resignation "later today".

The Minister said that the Labour Party cannot afford to have a Local Councillor with such serious charges levelled against him. Asked if the Labour Party would be willing to take action if Azzopardi does not resign, the PL Deputy Leader said that "if he does not resign, the councillor will be suspended until court proceedings are concluded."
