Watch: British passenger hits out at three police officers in German airport brawl

A British air passenger, 38, battered German police officers in Frankfurt after his flight was delayed, footage shows.

Near a Lufthansa check-in gate a video, uploaded by Polish rapper Schwesta Ewa, shows the man's ferocious single-handed attack on the officers knocking at least three of them to the ground.

He is heard shouting 'I am a British citizen!' before starting the fight when a woman believed to be travelling with him falls over during a confrontation with security, the Daily Mail reports.

Around 7,000 passengers were stranded after nighttime flights were cancelled, and 'the mood among the passengers was certainly not the best,' said an airport spokesperson.

The video footage shows a huge crowd of angry passengers, who during the confrontation are heard jeering and whistling, as the man slams down both male and female officers.

In staggering scenes he cannot be contained despite being outnumbered at least four to one.

His rampage is only brought to an end when he suddenly slumps and lies down on the floor as two women wearing headscarves, thought to be known to the man, surround him.

Frankfurt Police have issued a statement on Facebook to dispel rumours the incident was related to terrorism.

They wrote the altercation occurred on 23 July after bad weather on Friday night meant several thousand passengers were stranded at the airport.

One 38-year-old English passenger lost his cool and started 'verbal attacks' and 'threatened' an airline employee, they posted.

When members of the federal police were called in and attempted to calm the situation down he only got more enraged.

The argument then 'suddenly came to a physical confrontation of colleagues with the passenger, which is shown in the video,' added the police.

Both the man and the officers were slightly injured, and an investigation has now been launched against the passenger.

Since the footage appeared on Facebook yesterday the video has already amassed nearly two million views and gone viral with over 24,000 shares.
