Wirt San Gwann is appealing to the public, interested NGOs and other constituted bodies whose duty is to protect our national heritage to object to the Planning Authority without reservations and without delay against the demolition of the only Word War II pill-box which still survives in San Ġwann.
An application by a developer, PA 3873/16, has been recently submitted to the Planning Authority to demolish the pill-box to make way for more apartment blocks.
Pill-boxes around the island have considerable historical significance, and this particular 1930s/40s pill-box is clad in masonry in line with the War Office policy and strategy of camouflaging the structure by way of blending it with the rural surroundings.
Are we to forgo this wartime defensive vestige in the name of ‘development’, or are we brave and strong enough to make our voices heard in unison to save what is left of our World War II Heritage, this time in San Ġwann, in Triq Emvin Cremona?

The Secretary, Wirt San Ġwann
