Never ending stories

Sunday, 28 August 2016, 09:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Nine months ago I had forwarded a complaint to the Ombudsman’s office with the intention of recovering the money I had paid to repair the damage done to my car. This happened on a road in Safi. The local council has refused to pay although I gave them all the documentation required.

I have contacted the office of the Ombudsman several times to enquire about my case, but to no avail. I got to know of others, who like me have cases before the ombudsman and, as these cases are against the government or government entities, it is a never ending story. I have used the office of the Ombudsman several times in the past and was always very satisfied with the service. Cases which were much more complicated than this one were solved in a couple of weeks. I can’t understand what is keeping the Ombudsman from putting an end to such cases. The Ombudsman should know that justice delayed is justice denied.

I hope that Dr Owen Bonnici, who is responsible for justice on our island, will read this letter and put an end to these delays at the Ombudsman’s office.
