Parliamentary Secretary for the 2017 EU presidency and EU funds Ian Borg this morning unveiled the logo chosen for Malta’s upcoming EU Council presidency, which is inspired by the Maltese cross.

The unveiling of the logo came during a press conference that was jointly addressed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Affairs Louis Grech and Dr Borg.

The logo was chosen out of 29 design submissions by Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) students.

Dr Borg spoke of how the logo chosen is a “contemporary interpretation” of the Maltese cross, the emblem that is synonymous with Malta and its rich history.

Immigration and becoming closer to EU citizens are top of the agenda for Malta’s six-month long EU council presidency, that is to start in January and end in June.

"Malta will be holding the presidency during what is expected to be a busy and difficult period, with Brexit taking centre stage but other issues like security, the single market and economic growth also providing a challenge," he said.
