Updated (2) - Watch: Young hunter saves swan from vicious attack by duck in Gozo

Thursday, 5 January 2017, 13:40 Last update: about 11 years ago

A young Gozitan man, aided by a friend and two police officers, this morning saved a white swan that was being attacked by a duck in a reservoir on the outskirts of Victoria.

The white swan was part of a flock of eight birds that flew in some days ago, attracting a lot of interest, but got separated and landed in the reservoir at Wied ta' Zejta at around 0830am.

It was immediately set upon by one member of the resident Muscovy Duck (also known as mute duck) population.

For some reason the white swan did not fly away and was subjected to attacks from the duck for almost two hours.

It was finally retrieved by 20 year old hunter Samuel Curmi from Victoria who risked getting injured in the process.

He was aided by a friend as well as members of the Gozo Administrative Law Enforcement (ALE) section.

The swan was then put inside the police car and taken to the Marsalforn area, where it rejoined its flock.
