Like the Three Kings, PL had a clear roadmap which took it from Azerbaijan to Panama - Busuttil

Sunday, 8 January 2017, 11:50 Last update: about 9 years ago

Leader of the Nationalist Party Simon Busuttil this morning compared the politicians in Castille embroiled in scandals to the Three Kings who visited baby Jesus after his birth. He said that, just like the Three Kings, the leaders in Castille have travelled all over the globe, following a very clear roadmap to reach the final destination.

"This roadmap took our Three Kings to Azerbaijan and Shanghai where they sold our power station. They then went through Panama to open their secret accounts, went through Dubai and devoured the hotel minibar," Dr Busuttil said.

The PN leader was addressing a political activity held at the PN club in Hamrun. Dr Busuttil said that 2017 should be the year during which the people take their country back from those who snatched it away from them.

On the EU presidency, Dr Busuttil said that it was a huge satisfaction for him to see that something on which the PN had worked so hard, is still present and directly affecting our country. "The man who worked so hard to keep Malta out of the European Union, is now the EU's salesman. It's so ironic listening to Joseph Muscat praising the EU and saying that by leaving, the UK committed suicide."

The fact that the presidency is being led by an alternative government shows the importance of the Union, he added.

Reacting to the government's overspending, the Opposition Leader said that while the public, phone call after another, managed to raise €5 million for L-Istrina, the government kept going over budget by millions with a simple signature.

He said the government is also overspending on propaganda to try and give the illusion of the government's grandeur.

On fuel price increase, Dr Busuttil said that the government built hype and organised a big press conference to announce a decrease in 2c, but hid behind a simple press release to announce an increase of four cents per litre across the board. No Portfolio Minister Konrad Mizzi promised to keep prices stabilised in his 2017 calendar, but three days later the government announced the price hike.

He said that Joseph Muscat lied when in the New Year message when he claimed that the minimum wage had increased.

"The people need to wake up and claim back their country. I can help you, but you, the public, need to be the prime movers. The question is no longer whether this government is corrupt or not, but if it is tolerable to have such a corrupt government."

He said that the famous audits into Konrad Mizzi's accounts have not yet materialized. Even if published, Dr Busuttil said, what is bad will still remain bad and those responsible should have resigned.  He also criticized the police for not carrying out an investigation into Konrad Mizzi and his accounts.

"To those who believe that I am not forceful enough, I tell you, I choose not to stamp my feet, not to shout. But I can promise you integrity and honesty."
