Gift of Life President Paul Vincenti has sent an open letter to Minister for Edu cation Evarist Bartolo expressing his concern over the recent news report saying that graphic lessons on abortion were given at the National Sports School by Pro Life Network.

"I am concerned that this is part of an aggressive campaign to gradually control and engineer what values our students receive", he tells Minister Bartolo. In his letter Mr Vincenti wrote that he is concerned with the changing of our culture from one of life and hope, to one of death and despair.

Mr Vincenti said that, "It was reported in the media three months ago, that is, that the Women's Right's Group, who were behind the Morning After Pill campaign, said that they had "No stand on abortion". Sadly today, 26 January, just 3 months later, this group is now reported to be demanding 'a mature debate on reproductive rights and abortion' in our schools."

He told Minister Bartolo that, "in 2005, outside the parliament building in Valletta, you were amongst the first MPs to sign the petition by the Gift of Life Foundation, which at the time was calling on members of parliament to enact an amendment to the Constitution of Malta, clarifying that the right to life begins at conception."

In all, 49,000 signatures were collected for this campaign and the petition was eventually presented to parliament. 

Mr Vincenti said that, "we are therefore confident that you will continue protecting the right of all Maltese  to positive, fact-based, age-appropriate, ethically correct, life affirming, values via supervision of PSD teachers as has always been the case."

He said that untold numbers of students, both male and female have been spared so much confusion and misery because of these positive sessions.
